The Hare and the Tortoise
The hare and the tortoise live in the countryside. The hare is arrogant because he can run faster than the other animals that live near the farm. He can run faster than the fox and the rabbit. The hare laughs at the tortoise because he moves very slowly!
The hare says, “You have short legs and a heavy shell! You are so slow !”
The tortoise says, “That is true. I am slow but sure. I get there in the end!”
The tortoise says, “Let’s have a race and see who the winner is. I think I will win!”
The hare replies, “Don’t be silly! You will not win the race!”
The tortoise cannot run. He can only walk slowly. The tortoise walks and walks. The hare goes faster than him. The hare believes he will win easily so he decides to have a little rest near the finish line. He lies in a comfortable hammock and he falls asleep.
The tortoise walks slowly but he does not stop. He is very tired but he does not give up. He laughs when he goes past the hare who is asleep in a hammock! The fox and the rabbit clap and shout when they see their friend the tortoise approach the finish line.
“Well done tortoise! Hurray!”
The fox and the rabbit laugh at the hare who is asleep!
Suddenly the hare wakes up. He hears the noise and he is shocked to see the tortoise near the finish line. The hare jumps up and runs very fast along the road. But he cannot beat the tortoise. The tortoise goes past the flags. He arrives first and he is the winner! The hare loses the race !
The tortoise says, “I am slow but sure and I get there in the end. That is better than running fast and going to sleep!”
The fox, the rabbit and the tortoise are happy. They hope that the hare has learned a lesson!
