“The Fisherman and his Wife” Part 2
The fisherman’s wife is never satisfied. She is very ambitious and greedy. She wants bigger and bigger homes and more and more power.
The fisherman is the opposite. He is a humble man. He is happy to live simply and he does not like his wife asking for bigger homes and more power. The husband does not want to be king but his wife wants to be queen. Are you more like the husband or the wife?
What was the problem with the wife asking to be Pope? Do you think she would be a good leader of the church? What type of person do you think should be queen or pope? What characteristics do you think a good leader should have : wisdom, mercy, humility, arrogance, physical strength, faith, courage, intelligence …..?
Each time the fisherman goes to the sea to make a wish for his wife, the sky changes colour. Why do you think the sky turns black at the end and there is thunder and lightning?
Who is capable of making the sun rise in the morning and the moon rise in the evening? Is it possible for any person to make this happen? Why do you think that the woman was back in the hut at the end of the story? Why do you think she did not stay Pope?
What type of power would you like : military power, the power of a king or queen in a country where a king is still powerful, a religious leader, a teacher or principal in a school, or something else ……. ?
What type of home would you ideally like : a hut, a cottage, a palace, a cathedral ( or a big house connected to it ) or something else ….?
